Tucked away at the end of a quiet street in North Chatham, and bordered on two sides by undeveloped land, our clients understandably adored the location of their home. Their feelings about the house were decidedly different. Dated and dark, and far too confining to meet their current and future needs, they opted for a full-scale renovation that included introducing several dormers and the addition of a three-season enclosed porch with a fieldstone fireplace. A Nantucket-style dormer – a shed dormer with a doghouse dormer on either end – was added to the front of the main house. A second shed dormer across the back essentially added an entire floor of livable space above the main house. An upper level was also built over the garage creating still more usable square footage. Our clients’ choice of finishes throughout keeps the interior spaces feeling open and airy, with details inserting a subtle coastal look.
