A somewhat unusual commission for our architecture firm based on Cape Cod, Echo Salon is commercial project that began with a nearly blank canvas. Set on Main Street in Hyannis, the space is typical among its neighbors; a long, extremely narrow room with the front façade, with oversized display windows, providing the primary access. While many of our projects, both commercial and residential, involve creating an open-concept floor plan, here we needed to carve the cavernous space into several small rooms appropriate for the many services offered by the salon. Entry is into a small waiting area with the much larger hairstyling space just beyond. From there, a series of private and semi-private rooms are reserved for facials, bodywork, manicures and pedicures, and so forth. A durable laminate floor that is reminiscent of driftwood runs throughout, lending a sense of visual continuity to the entirety of the space. A variety of wall treatments created with wood add texture and residential ambiance throughout.
