English Country House

View Photos

The home ERT Architects designed for a client in the UK bears many classic Shingle-style elements that are part of the New England vernacular, yet subtle details create a profile that is decidedly different. Twin peaks anchor either side of the sprawling country estate. A doghouse dormer set just inside each strengthens the sense of symmetry. The varied roofline forms unique angles in many of the rooms on the upper floor. Double-hung windows, in singles, doubles and trios, line the front of the home. On the rear façade, the lower level features what appear to be windows but are actually accordion-style doors. The front door opens to a foyer with a ceiling that soars high above. An intricate stairway with a wraparound landing on the second story sets the tone for a home that effortlessly blends a sense of luxury with pared-down simple elements.
