As one drives through a historic neighborhood on Cape Cod, it impossible not to notice the homes that appear to have grown over time, with symbiotic additions extending off an original Greek Revival or Cape Cod-style house. In some ways, ERT Architects’ design for a home on an exquisite piece of land along Bass River has the same appeal, yet it is a new home. From the front, it looks almost small, but when viewed from the side elevation, it is clearly of considerable size. The design came about in consideration of the river views, which can be seen from nearly every room throughout. A farmer’s porch across the back and a deck to one side further capitalize on the view. The profile of the home’s exterior works to add texture to the interior, with a variety of angles and eaves found in many of the upstairs spaces.
