In the summer of 2006, we found a water front house for sale that was two doors from our very good friends. The house wqas a disaster, but the property was fantastic. We decided to buy it. Around the same time, ERT was designing the renovations of two other houses on our street.
We liked the ERT designs, met Erik Tolley, Liked his architectural portfolio of past projects and his approach to design, and decided to engage ERT for our project.
Erik worked with the 1972 construction and designed a renovation with raised ceilings throughout most of the house. Erik turned a vinyl sided, ugly structure with seven sliding glass doors in to a handsome, traditional Cape Cod design. When the existing attached garage was determined to be too structurally unsound to save, Erik developed a work around design within a few days that improved the roof lines, replaced the garage, and created a bonus room on the second floor.
Barbara, ERT’s interior designer, assisted with the selection and design of ceramic and marble tile, built-ins, lighting, plumbing fixtures, and paint colors. Both Erik and Barbara were open to our personal ideas and were never condescending, no matter how lame our ideas might have been.
At the end of our project, we had a house that we were very proud to call home. We also have a new friend in Erik Tolley.
